Article : Digitizing for Access and Preservation Strategies of the Library of Congress by Deanna B.Marcum

This article gives a good overview of the history leading up to digitization practices today. The author says that the Library of Congress,"will continue to digitize as much materials as we can. And we take advantage of the Internet for making our resources available worldwide...Additionally, we will take advantage of digitization to help us meet preservation needs. We will recognize that providing access to digital copies enables us to reduce use of, and thus preserve longer, our fragile originals." (2007, p. 9)

This is an excellent article, thank you for sharing! Digitalization is an amazing solution to preserving works. There are debates over digital versions versus the actual item, however, I say something is better than nothing.

Digitization at the Library of Congress(LOC) is presented on iTube on my blog. LOC began digitizing fifteen years ago. Of course, they follow copyright laws when it comes to print.

My topic is content selection and search access in digital libraries; more like a portal.

The main public library in Sarsasota county has the only microfilm collection of the local newspaper. Citizens, who need evidence for change, frequently use this form of preservation.
